Feel safe while traveling with Lux Express!
At Lux Express, your comfort and safety always come first. 93% of our passengers consider bus travel fairly or very safe, confirming that we are on the right track. We’d like to remind you of a few simple but important steps that help ensure you reach your destination safely every time. For us, safety is not just a campaign - it’s a part of every journey, from the first kilometer to the final stop.
Always fasten your seat belt - even on the bus!
Did you know that the same traffic rules apply on a bus as in a car?
Every seat on a Lux Express bus is equipped with a seat belt, and wearing it is mandatory throughout the entire journey. A seat belt helps prevent injuries during sudden braking or an accident, even when the ride feels calm and safe.
Did you know that in a collision at just 20 km/h, the impact force on the human body can exceed 6–7 times its own weight? No one can counteract such force on their own.
Our buses are also equipped with seat belt extenders. If you feel that the seat belt is too short, don’t hesitate to ask the driver for assistance.
In October 2025, we conducted a seat belt survey among our passengers, which revealed that 94% of travelers on Estonian domestic routes always or mostly fasten their seat belt on the bus. This is a small but significant increase compared to the previous year, when 92% reported doing so. The most consistent seat belt users are passengers over the age of 45, while younger travelers show more variability — fastening the seat belt is not always automatic for everyone.
The main reasons for using a seat belt are safety and habit. Most passengers do so because they consider it the right and safe thing to do. Those who do not fasten their seat belt usually cite discomfort or the belief that buses are safe enough without one. However, a growing share of passengers now fasten their seat belt due to reminders from the driver or because it is required by law. This indicates that seat belt use in Estonia is increasingly driven by internal motivation and becoming a natural part of the traffic culture.
On Lux Express international routes, 65% of passengers always or mostly fasten their seat belts (last year the figure was 59%). The survey continues to show that the most common reason for doing so is that passengers feel safer when wearing a seat belt.
A seat belt can save your life! Always fasten your seat belt and make sure your loved ones and fellow passengers do the same.
Be visible - wear a reflector!
When moving around in the dark, the most important thing is that you can be seen. When getting on the bus or stepping off at intermediate stops, always wear a reflector - it makes you visible to car and bus drivers from tens of meters away.
Did you know that without a reflector, a pedestrian is visible in a car’s low beam lights only from about 30 meters away? A properly placed, high-quality reflector significantly improves visibility. With a reflector, a pedestrian can be seen from up to 130 meters with low beams and even up to 300 meters with high beams. This gives drivers much more time to react and helps prevent dangerous situations.
Even a small light source, such as a reflective accessory with illumination or the flashlight function on your phone, can greatly improve safety in the dark.
Remember: a reflector is not just an accessory, it’s a simple and effective way to protect your life!

How to make yourself visible?
Attach the reflector 50–70 cm above the ground, this places it at the height of a car’s headlights, allowing it to reflect light more effectively and making you easier to see. A dangling reflector should be fastened so that it extends beyond your outer clothing and can swing freely. This movement helps it catch the light from all directions, offering the best visibility.
Tip: It’s recommended to wear a reflector on both sides of your body, so that you are visible from both the right and the left. A reflector that stays in the shadow on one side may go unnoticed by drivers.
First aid is always within reach
None of us is protected from an unexpected health emergency! Whether it’s feeling unwell, a minor injury, or another health concern, our bus drivers have completed first aid training and know how to act in unexpected situations. So if you start feeling unwell during the ride, don’t hesitate to let the driver know! Our team will make sure you can continue your journey safely and comfortably.
You too can do your part to act correctly in an emergency. Take first aid training or refresh your knowledge. This way you’ll know how to help both yourself and others if needed. A little awareness and quick action can save a life.

We have joined forces with the Estonian Red Cross and are sharing tips on how to help yourself and your fellow passengers in case of an accident.
Instructor Jana highlights the most important principles for how to respond in an emergency:

Do your part to make travel safe!
Always fasten your seat belt - even on the bus!
Seat belts aren’t just for car drivers. On a bus, they help prevent injuries during sudden braking or unexpected maneuvers. Even on a short trip, it’s worth fastening your seat belt. It’s a simple way to keep yourself safe!

Place your suitcases in the luggage compartment!
Large luggage belongs in the luggage compartment, not in the aisle or in front of your seat. This gives everyone more space on the bus and reduces the risk of something falling over or injuring someone during the trip.

Place your outerwear on the shelf!
Free your seat from outerwear and place it on the overhead shelf. This makes the journey more comfortable for both you and other passengers.
Note: Please do not place your luggage on the overhead shelf. In the event of sudden braking, it may fall down and injure you or other passengers.

Put a lid on your coffee cup!
The bus may brake suddenly during the ride. A lid on your cup helps prevent hot drinks from spilling and keeps you and other passengers dry.

Avoid moving around on a moving bus!
When the bus is in motion, try to stay in your seat. Standing or walking can be dangerous, as sudden braking may cause you to fall. If you need to move — for example, to get coffee, buy water, or use the restroom — do so when the bus is at a stop.

Be visible - wear a reflector!
When getting on or off the bus in the dark, a reflector helps make you visible to the bus driver and other road users. It’s a simple but vital way to increase your safety.
