Lux Express Tallinn-Tartu full hour buses now have 5G

All Lux Express Tallinn-Tartu Lounge buses now have a Wi-Fi network based on fast 5G mobile internet, so that passengers can work or watch videos even more comfortably while driving.

"The decision to start replacing the ever-weary 4G with 5G coverage was self-evident, because one of the goals of Lux Express throughout history has been to ensure the most comfortable travel experience for passengers," said Ingmar Roos, business manager of Lux Express Estonia. "The painful transmission holes, which have been talked about by passengers between Tallinn and Tartu for a long time, are now a thing of the past, at least in our buses."

The 5G-based Wi-Fi network is equipped with all 10 new comfortable and economical Scania buses that Lux Express put on the line in July, and the next 17 will be added already at the beginning of 2024. In addition to the new buses, nine Lounge buses got the fastest 5G router by October, which serve the Tallinn-Tartu route departing on the full hour in both directions. Faster internet is spread throughout the bus and is free for passengers.

Wi-Fi coverage based on 5G was installed in buses in cooperation with the TOP winners of Estonia's most successful telecom companies, RebelRoam and Telia.

RebelRoam, which started eight years ago from Telia's start-up program, is specialized in managing the quality of on-board internet in international buses and trains. "Optimizing the speed is very important so that all 50 passengers can enjoy fast 5G-based internet at the same time. For example, if one of them starts YouTube or Netflix on their computer and starts watching a movie with 4K quality, without optimization, the other passengers would probably have a slower internet connection," said RebelRoam board member Tarvo Topolev. "With our solution, we ensure that these errors and vulnerabilities do not occur."

According to the chairman of the board of Telia Estonia, Holger Haljandi, 5G is the most modern and powerful mobile communication technology, the advantages of which are gradually being adopted by companies. "It is a great pleasure to see how the cooperation of several innovative companies resulted in a solution that significantly improves the quality of internet service and customer experience in public transport. The Wi-Fi solution for public transport born in cooperation between Telia and Rebelroam is unique in the world, because it combines all Telia's mobile communication technologies in one moving bus to create the best Wi-Fi experience. Telia is building its 5G network increasingly wider and denser, and the cooperation between Lux Express, Rebelroam and Telia is a good guide for new 5G projects," added Haljand.

Ingmar Roos added that the work for faster internet in Lux Express continues, and in cooperation with Telia and RebelRoam, a speed jump will be gradually made in the comfortable buses of other lines as well.
