Lux Express submitted an application to the RTA to issue route permits for Riga - Liepaja and Liepaja - Daugavpils routes

On Tuesday (November 14), Lux Express submitted an application to the Road Transport Administration (RTA) to include the Riga-Liepāja and Liepāja-Daugavpils routes in the list of commercial routes of regional importance and to issue route permits to AS Lux Express Estonia, informs the company.

“Lux Express Estonia is a passenger transport company with a lot of experience in international and Estonian domestic commercial transport. After our market research, we have concluded that there is a very large market potential on the Riga-Liepāja and Liepāja-Daugavpils routes. Based on our experience so far, we are confident that with our comfortable buses and high quality of service, we will be able to attract a significant number of additional passengers to intercity public transport. Our commitment is not only to provide passengers with the best service, but also to raise the quality standard in the Latvian intercity passenger transportation industry," says Lux Express board member Ingmar Roos in the ATD submission.

With RTA issuing permits, Lux Express will provide six round trips from Riga to Liepāja per day, as well as two additional departures on holidays. Among them, one round trip Liepāja–Daugavpils departure will be provided once a day.

"This would be a unique route, because we will be the first to offer to get from one side of Latvia to the other with one journey," says Lux Express Baltic Business Development Director Aldis Ķibēns.

All departures on the Riga–Liepāja and Liepāja–Daugavpils routes will be made with the just-purchased Scania Irizar i6s buses manufactured in 2023, which offer one of the highest levels of comfort in the industry. These buses are almost 15% more efficient than the previous Lux Express most modern and economical buses. They have 30% less air resistance and at least 13% less emissions and fuel consumption. In addition, all buses will have toilets, media screens with content also in Latvian, as well as free hot drinks, explained A. Ķibēns.
