Lux Express’s acclaimed service concept is expanding to the Finnish market, marking an important milestone in the history of the Estonian mobility company. In collaboration with the leading bus company OnniBus, Lux Express’s Premium-class buses will begin serving passengers in Finland from June 19th.

“The decision by Finland’s recognized market leader to start cooperation with Lux Express is the best proof that, over the past 15 years, we have succeeded in creating a unique mobility service that is highly valued not only by passengers across the Baltic region but also by international partners,” said Ingmar Roos, member of the Lux Express management board. “This international recognition gives us the confidence and ambition to set our goal for the next decade as expanding into the Scandinavian market through franchise partners. Cooperation with OnniBus is the first major milestone of this strategic direction.”

The comfortable buses, branded as “Lux Express by OnniBus,” will begin operating on two intercity routes in Finland starting June 19th: Helsinki-Turku and Helsinki-Jyväskylä. In the fall, two more cities will be added to the route network: Helsinki-Tampere and Helsinki-Kotka.

OnniBus CEO Joona Hurmerinta emphasized that Lux Express’s premium-class buses offer Finnish passengers the comforts already familiar from the Estonian and Baltic markets. “Each seatback has a screen where passengers can enjoy a wide range of fresh and free entertainment. The buses also feature especially comfortable seats and more legroom than usual. If a customer wants to add a touch of luxury to their journey, they can book a seat in the Relax Class, which offers very comfortable leather seats and plenty of space with the 2+1 seating arrangement,” described Hurmerinta. “We are very excited about this collaboration and see that the Lux Express service concept perfectly complements OnniBus’s overall offering.”

OnniBus aims to increase the number of bus passengers, thanks to Lux Express’s comfortable service concept—particularly attracting those people who currently travel between cities by car or train.

Lux Express board member Ingmar Roos emphasized that the high-comfort service being introduced in Finland has already proven itself—based on experiences in Estonia and the Baltic states—as a reliable alternative to traveling by private car. “These experiences give us confidence that we can compete with private cars in Finland and elsewhere in Scandinavia,” he added.

In addition to operating domestic routes in Finland, Lux Express and OnniBus are also working closely together to connect the bus networks of the Baltic states and Finland. “Since last year, we have been operating two international bus lines from Riga and Vilnius that reach the D-terminal of the Port of Tallinn. On the Finnish side, OnniBus has extended its lines from Turku and Tampere to the Helsinki West Harbour terminal, thus creating a smoother connection between the Baltic states and Finland,” explained Roos.
