A renovated outdoor basketball court was opened near the University of Tartu sports hall

On the evening of April 27, Lux Express and the University of Tartu Maks & Moorits basketball club opened a renovated outdoor basketball court next to the University of Tartu sports hall — a versatile meeting place where sport, street culture, and art come together.

It is an outdoor basketball court whose visual design was created by Estonian mural artists Helena Hanni and Vahur Agar, giving the court a strong and distinctive visual identity. The artists highlighted the good cooperation between all parties involved and expressed their wish for the court to bring energy and эмоtion to players: “Our goal was to create a court that inspires people to move, to try, and to enjoy the game.”

The opening event brought together basketball fans and members of the community. The program included both an official opening ceremony and sports activities, including dunk and free-throw contests.

At the opening, Lux Express Group CEO Ingmar Roos said that Lux Express believes in movement in a broader sense: “Not only between cities, but also within a person — in courage, self-confidence, and the willingness to try. When young people have a place where they can play, make mistakes, and try again, something much bigger than a single basket is created. This court is designed exactly for that — to encourage people to simply give it a try.”

According to Roos, it is also important to continue cooperation with the University of Tartu Maks & Moorits Basketball Club: “We are pleased to continue supporting the University of Tartu basketball team and to contribute to the development of Estonian basketball in the coming years.”

Gert Prants, Chairman of the Board of the University of Tartu Academic Sports Club, highlighted the broader impact of the cooperation: “We are very pleased that, in addition to supporting the basketball team, Lux Express is leaving a meaningful mark in the form of both a mural and an outdoor court. This place will surely inspire many to play basketball or simply come and shoot.”

In addition to the opening of the court, Lux Express and the University of Tartu Maks & Moorits Basketball Club announced the continuation of their cooperation — the parties extended their main sponsorship agreement by two years. The aim of the partnership remains to contribute to the development of Estonian basketball and to provide the community with high-quality sports opportunities.

The renovated outdoor basketball court is open to everyone and welcomes both casual enthusiasts and more serious players to use it daily.
