Lux Express introduces a night bus on the Tartu-Tallinn route

As of January 2, Lux Express, in partnership with Tartu Bus Centre, launches a night bus service. This new service will bring Tartu residents to Tallinn Airport before 5 a.m. and take Tallinn residents to Tartu in time for the early hours of the new workday.

The new night bus will depart from Tartu daily at 2:30 a.m., arriving at Tallinn Bus Station at 4:50 a.m., with a stop at Tallinn Airport. The return bus will leave Tallinn at 5:40 a.m. and arrive in Tartu at 8:15 a.m.

According to Lux Express board member Ingmar Roos, the night bus was launched in response to customer requests. “Tartu residents had previously expressed their wish to reach Tallinn earlier in the day with our buses. We hope they’ll be pleased with this new, convenient travel option,” said Roos.

Although the Tartu-Tallinn route is already Lux Express’s most popular, with up to 27 buses operating on the busiest days, this addition holds strategic importance for two reasons. Firstly, the new service allows passengers from Tartu and South Estonia to reach Tallinn Airport during its peak morning hours, when most flights depart.

Secondly, this marks the first time another company will operate a route under the Lux Express brand. “We’ve partnered with Tartu Bus Centre, a strong family-run company with years of experience,” added Roos.

Toomas Hainla, CEO of Tartu Bus Centre, expressed pride in working with Lux Express. “We must have done something right over the past 25 years for a major competitor to see us as an equal partner. Public transport is facing challenging times, so constant innovation is necessary. We opened the night route from Tartu to Tallinn 16 years ago, and it remains the most reliable connection from the university town to Europe. We’re delighted that Lux Express chose us as a partner, allowing us to offer clients even more comfortable and sustainable services.”

The new service will use 56-seat Scania Irizar buses equipped with amenities like coffee, WiFi, and toilets. All Lux Express travel discounts will apply on this route.
