Survey reveals seat belt usage habits in Latvia
According to a survey conducted by Lux Express, 51% of Latvian passengers use seat belts on buses during domestic journeys, while 31% rarely or never use them.
"Our priority is passenger safety and comfort during travel, therefore Lux Express continuously works to improve this and to educate passengers, which includes regular information about the necessity of using seat belts. Overall, evaluating the survey data, it is evident that we are on the right path to reaching other countries' standards in seat belt usage culture," says Aldis Ķibēns, a board member of "Lux Express Latvia."
The survey data shows that passengers' main reasons for using seat belts on buses include confidence that it is safer, it has become a habit, and it makes travel more comfortable and provides a sense of security.
"It is clear that passengers recognize the importance and responsibility of using seat belts not only towards themselves but also towards others. This is also indicated by responses in the survey, noting that buckling up could protect not only themselves but also other passengers in the event of an accident," emphasizes A. Ķibēns.
Furthermore, 91% of respondents positively receive reminders from bus drivers to use seat belts during the trip. Only 2% of respondents perceive the reminder to buckle up negatively, according to the Lux Express survey data.
The main reasons passengers cite for not using seat belts on buses include a sufficient sense of safety while traveling by bus, forgetfulness, and not being accustomed to using seat belts.
Lux Express, in November, which is also the safe driving month, conducts various activities to educate passengers and provide them with items such as reflectors. There is also collaboration with non-governmental organizations to improve people's understanding of passenger safety. The survey was conducted in October and November of this year among passengers who have used bus transportation services in the last three months.
