The ban on the entry of motor vehicles registered in Russia (with RU number plates) does not apply to public transport.

From September 13 Estonia and from September 16 also Finland prohibits motor vehicles with Russian Federation license plates from entering Estonia from the external border, as they fall under the scope of sanctions.

With this, Estonia and Finland together with Latvia and Lithuania follow the additional interpretation of the sanctions imposed on the Russian Federation published by the European Commission on September 8, according to which motor vehicles registered in the Russian Federation are no longer allowed to enter the territory of the European Union.

The restriction applied today does not apply to public transport with more than 9 seats. The European Commission's sanctions package therefore does not restrict the movement of public transport across the borders of Russia and the European Union. This means that the EU sanctions package has made an exception for public transport - the option is preserved for people who have a compelling need to move across the Russian border.
