In first nine month Lux Express increased number of carried passengers by 18%

04.11.2010

Thanks to the tourism development in the Baltic States, the region's leading passengers carrying company Lux Express in the first nine months carried 50.5 thousand or 18% passengers more than last year, during this period reaching the total number of carried passengers 334 thousand. Riga-Tallinn was the route where Baltic state citizens were traveling most active.

"More and more people convince that travelling by bus is more than getting from one point to another. It is an opportunity during the trip to work using the Internet, or simply to relax reading the latest newspaper. In recent years we have invested a lot of work, effort and energy to substantially improve the quality of services and break the stereotypes. This is evidenced by our investment policy. This autumn we have made biggest investment in company’s history giving 1.36 million lats to purchase several new buses. We hope to receive the buses in December to provide passengers even better service already during the Christmas period, "said Lux Express chairman Hannes Saarpuu.

Analyzing financial data of Lux Express group, we can conclude that turnover in first nine months increased by 14% reaching 5.32 million euros. This year's third quarter turnover was 2.38 million, up by 13% comparing to the last year.

"Passenger carrying industry financial data mostly is affected by seasonality. Lux Express group in this case is no exception – if in the first half year we had turnover of 2.94 million euro, than in the summer months we have achieved nearly the same good results. The last quarter’s figures mostly will be impacted by Baltic States Tourism Policy and marketing activities before the Christmas. The tourism flow to Riga will show whether the marketing activities will give the expected effect or not,” explains H. Saarpuu.

Evaluating the data of selected destinations in the first nine months, the largest percentage increase comparing to the previous year was in the route Riga Kaliningrad - 45%, followed by a route Riga - St Petersburg - 35%, while in the route Riga - Tallinn the total number of carried passengers increased by 22%.
